The resort of Albufeira on the Algarve has grown from a small fishing village into a well known and popular holiday destination. It still retains some of its original charm, with white washed cottages and narrow streets.
This holiday resort has a long cliff backed golden sandy beach which shelves gently into the water, there are rock pools and coves to explore. There are other superb sandy beaches to the east and west of the town where many watersports are available.
The town has a good selection of bars and restaurants, and shops selling Portuguese pottery and locally made leather goods. As with other areas in the Algarve Albufeira is famous for its seafood and you will find no shortage of restaurants serving excellent seafood cuisine.
For a break from the beach area you may want to visit the Zoo Marine, here you can enjoy dolphin and sea lion shows, a tropical forest, various rides and spacious gardens. You will find bars and restaurants for food and refreshments it is a good family day out.
There is no shortage of nightlife and entertainment around, depending on your choice, there are clubs, bars and discos playing most types of music, you can party into the early hours. Many of the bars have entertainment on in the evenings where children are welcome.
You can browse around the market which is held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday in every month, good buys are shoes and you can find some souvenirs to take back home.
