, sleigh rides and ice-skating/curling. You should also make time to enjoy one of the many picturesque walks.
You can wander around the pedestrian area of the town, browse in the shops and boutiques. There are a large variety of cafes, bars and some discos for evening entertainment as well as excellent restaurants to try, a three course dinner will cost about 20 euros. You should find something to suit your taste and budget.
There’s over 200kms of marked piste, 16 blue runs, 38 red and 6 black (whole valley) and approximately 80kms of marked trails (valley). A photograph is not required for a lift pass.
Beginners will prefer the gentle nursery slopes in Angertal and then progress on to the easy open blues of the Schlossalm area. Intermediates will be spoilt for choice with the extensive blue and red runs which cover the whole valley network of the five main ski areas, and offer over 200kms of challenging pistes.
Advanced skiers have a varied choice of black runs with some difficult runs on the Stubnerkogel. There are some good, spectacular, off piste runs from Kreuzkogel to Heilstollen, among others. Snowboarding can be enjoyed at all ability levels on the varied terrain, there is also a well maintained park to keep you happy. Bad Hofgastein is suitable for families, there is a local ski kindergarten which takes children 3-6 years old, adults and older children can get tuition from English speaking instructors at the ski school.
As with many ski resorts it is advisable to book in advance of your holiday break
especially in the peak holiday weeks. Many visitors prefer package tours but there is a choice of chalets, hotels, rooms etc. The tourist office at Bad Hofgastein will be able to help you with details of accommodation in this area if you are travelling independently.
