The Upper Bavarian region is extremely popular with tourists the scenery is beautiful, in winter you can see the snow covered Alpine slopes; you will also find many fine historic buildings. At Konigssee you will find Bavaria’s loveliest lake set between mountain slopes you can take a boat trip to the church of St. Bartholoma which was built in the 1700’s enjoying the scenery and sights on the way.
There are many beautiful towns in this area, the small town of Reit im Winkl is another town worth a visit it is so picturesque with its narrow streets, colorful houses and is popular in the winter and summer months. In summer you can make it a base for exploring more of the region it is also popular with hikers, in the winter this area has the best snow cover and has some stunning scenery.
The southern region of Upper Bavaria offers its visitors many things to enjoy, there are lakes and mountains. The traditional costume of the local Bavarians is worn here. You may want to visit the town of Landsberg there are many historic houses and fine architecture to see as you wander around. The fortress gates, towers and walls give a mediaeval atmosphere as you approach the town.
One of the best known towns is Oberammergau with cheerful painted houses in the style of Luftlmalerei this style of painting dates from the 17th century and is largely seen in the Alpine areas of Bavaria.
If you want to enjoy magnificent mountain scenery and see the castles of Ludwig 11 of Bavaria then a trip to the Allgau area is for you, the resort of Oberstaufen have ski slopes as do others in this area and attract visitors all year round.
