Deauville is one of Normandy’s most beautiful sea-side resorts; it is approximately 2 hours from Paris and is a popular, fashionable resort on the Cote Fleurie. The town was founded by the Duc de Morny and was created in four years between 1860and 1864.
The famous promenade Les Planches was made out of hardwood in 1923 the town has a splendid beach but it does get busy on sunny summer days especially in the main holiday season. You will probably want to spend some time here enjoying the sea, sand and holiday atmosphere. You can take long walks along the beach or just chill out and sunbathe under the colourful beach umbrellas, whatever suits you. The boardwalk is where you will find most of the bars and restaurants.
Deauville has all the major brands in fashion shopping for sale, Gucci, Prada etc. if shopping is your thing you will find plenty to keep you occupied!
There are two race courses, Clairfontaine famous for top class horse racing and la Toques; you will need to get in touch with the tourist office for racing dates or more details if you would like to enjoy some racing fixtures while on holiday here. You may want to take the opportunity of a guided tour of the race courses which are available. The racecourse attracts visitors from all over Europe.
You should take the time to explore the town and back streets and see the charming wooden architecture; alternatively you can take a guided tour of all the main tourist and visitor attractions they are on offer if you prefer.
Another facility that may interest you is the Olympic swimming pool which was built in 1966.
The Barriére Casino where you may want to spend some time, and (money) at the gaming tables, is a popular venue for many visitors here, you can also enjoy live shows, bars and a nightclub. You will find many restaurants, night bars and some nightclubs for your evening entertainment.
In July and August the Villa Strassburger one of Deauville’s most beautiful villas is open to visitors if you are holidaying here at that time it is worth visiting and see the luxurious furnishings and fittings. This resort makes a good base for exploring the Normandy landing beaches, the batteries at Mont Canisy. You can book a tour of the installations and the underground gallery. Deauville is a cosmopolitan resort with smart shops, cafes and all the ingredients to make a good holiday destination.
