The most popular destination in the American mid-south is the city of Memphis, Tennessee. Great music, amazing barbecue, and rich diversity are just a few of the reasons millions of tourists have chosen Memphis for their family trips. Even if you can only stay for a day, there is no doubt that you will find Memphis both fascinating and fun.

If you are planning a trip to Memphis, there are a few destinations that you should not miss. First and foremost, be sure to visit the Lorraine Motel, the site where Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot and killed in 1968. While you are there, take a tour of the National Museum of Civil Rights, which was built around the Lorraine Motel. You will be glad you did.

After that, head over to Sun Studios to see where Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Elvis Presley made their music. The tour will take you through the surprisingly small studio where owner Sam Phillips helped start a music revolution. If you still want more Elvis, Graceland is only 20 minutes south of Memphis, and tours are always available.

Finish off the day at Rendezvous, the world-famous barbecue restaurant. Everything they serve is delicious, but true barbecue fanatics will want to order the ribs. Finally, take a short walk over to the Peabody Hotel and have a martini by the famous Peabody water fountain. It is the best way to end a great day in the amazing city of Memphis.
