Mojácar is an old traditional Moorish fortress town located in southern Spain on the Costa de Almeria. There are really two parts to Mojácar the old town (Mojácar Pueblo) and Mojácar Playa the modern sea-front resort. The ‘Old Town’ positioned on a hilltop is a delight to explore with whitewashed houses and twisting cobbled streets, much remains the same here as it has for centuries.
There are shops to browse around as well as bars and nice restaurants; you should try one of the tapas bars while visiting here.
Mojácar Playa is situated at the base of the Sierra Cabrera Mountains it is a popular holiday resort developed over recent years, with around 7km of sandy beaches ideal for a relaxing beach holiday, if you would like something more active a choice of watersports are available including jet-skiing, water skiing, snorkelling, and scuba diving. The resort has plenty of activities and tourist facilities for its visitors and still retains some of its Spanish charm and character.
There are bars, discos and restaurants some with Flamenco dancers for your evening entertainment, if you are on a package tour you will find the hotels usually have entertainment programmes for their guests plus the tour reps have organised evening excursions on offer. Nightlife is to be found mostly at the sea-front promenade area in the popular holiday months, and is possibly more suited to families and couples.
It is recommended you hire a car for some of your time here, when you feel like a change from the resort you can explore further afield and visit some of the main visitor attractions in this region of Spain.
Other activities which may be of interest and available nearby include golf; horse riding in the mountains, off road biking and lawn bowls, the unspoilt areas around are ideal for walking enthusiasts.
