Perth in Western Australia is a modern city with a range of attractions within the city and the surrounding area to explore; with around 50 miles of sandy beaches to enjoy it offers its visitors many opportunities and new experiences. If you like shopping you will enjoy the city of Perth the centre has shopping arcades and on Murray and Hay Streets traffic free shopping malls both connected by overpasses and walkways. A few kilometres west of the city is Subiaco a trendy and cosmopolitan Perth suburb lined with elegant buildings it has charming pretty little streets to wander around. There are bars, nightclubs cafes/restaurants and a small but impressive designer shopping complex. Northbridge is a few minutes walk from Perth City it is a cultural and entertainment area with some top night spots, there are a good variety of restaurants from Greek, Italian, Thai and Chinese to choose from.
On the ‘Sunset Coast’ is one of Perth’s most famous beaches
; about a 20 minute drive from Perth along the West Coast Highway is Scarborough Beach with white soft sand where you can spend many hours swimming in the clear waters or relaxing on the beach. The long sandy beach is popular for surfing and a favourite place for wind and kite surfers. There is free parking just minutes from the sand; you will find numerous eateries from fast food outlets to cafes and restaurants. If you prefer to picnic there are also some nice grassy areas.
There are other good beaches to choose from some a little less busy but popular among tourists and locals, Swanbourne Beach and Cottesloe Beach which has plenty of free parking may appeal to you. One of Perth’s visitor attractions is Perth Zoo this world class zoo is home to 1500 animals with over 200 hundred native and exotic species. The zoos gardens are magnificent; you can take a walk through a Rain Forest Retreat which contains thousands of plants. The Asian Rainforest is home to elephants, Perth Zoo is a major tourist attraction with something for everyone to enjoy.
Other Perth attractions that may interest you include Perth Mint still operating from its original premises; you can see how coins are made. The Western Australian Museum which is the main museum of the state of Western Australia, the museum was established in 1891 it has an international reputation with unique and wide-ranging collections of cultural and natural science items. The museum is situated in Northbridge. Kings Park and Botanic Gardens are well worth a visit you can enjoy some wonderful views
of the city of Perth and the Swan River on the Lotterywest Federation Walk, this walkway through the Botanic Garden is a must you will not be disappointed.
You should make time to visit the Swan Valley which is about 30 minutes drive away if you prefer you can opt for a leisurely river cruise which takes around two and a half hours but is enjoyable and relaxing and makes a good day trip out from the city. The Swan Valley is home to over thirty wineries, you can visit the famous Houghton Winery and the Sandalford Estate for some wine tasting!
