Sitges on the Costa Dorada is about 40km south of Barcelona it started out as a fishing village and evolved into a haven for artists. It is a charming resort with a maze of cobbled narrow streets and whitewashed houses. Sitges still manages to retain its Spanish character and is one of the prettiest, liberal and liveliest resorts on the Costa.

Most people choose Sitges as a holiday destination for the beautiful sandy beaches and there are plenty to tempt you here, you can choose small coves, quieter beach areas or one where watersport and other beach orientated activities are available. You can enjoy jet skiing, windsurfing, and pedal boats plus many other watersports if you are looking for a more active holiday, alternatively why not take the opportunity to unwind, relax, and swim in the warm sea water and enjoy a long cool drink!

Nudism is allowed at some of the beaches in or near the resort, you should check with the tourist office in Sitges which ones they are.

As you wander around the town you will find lots of good shops to browse around selling clothes, shoes, handbags, traditional crafts and souvenirs. There are many restaurants and bars for food and refreshment some better than others! You should take the opportunity to try some traditional food; most produce is either fished or locally grown.

You may want to visit some of the fine buildings here; the 17th century church of Saint Bartomeu I Santa Tecia which overlooks Sitges is worth seeing. At the Palau Maricel you can see some excellent exhibits of Catalan sculpture the palace is very ornate with magnificent tiles and beautiful terraces. Sitges still has a strong sense of history and the contributions of artists who discovered this town in the 19th century is still in evidence.

If you are visiting Sitges for the nightlife you will not be disappointed it certainly attracts the younger crowd and the young at heart! There are plenty of pubs, bars, discos and nightclubs to keep you partying all night long, plenty of choice of entertainment here! You will find many exclusive gay bars and discos here to. You can also have a drink at one of the sea-front open air bars and enjoy the holiday atmosphere.

Sitges offers a wide variety of activities to its visitors, if you are looking for a fun packed holiday destination this resort may well suit you. It has also become a very popular destination for the gay community, attracting thousands of gay males to it each year.
