Tossa de Mar on the Costa Brava is a favourite holiday destination for couples and families. With mediaeval walls, defence towers, picturesque narrow winding streets dating back to the 12th century and the 14th century castle, all give an historic feel and atmosphere to the attractive Old Town. The beaches are gritty sand and shingle; in the peak holiday season the resort has a bustling beach life. The views across the bay are stunning.
The coast of Tossa has many rocky coves and inlets some have small beaches, you may want to explore these and do some sun bathing and snorkelling. If you are looking for a relaxing beach holiday this resort should suit you, you can relax, unwind enjoy the beach, sun and the clear sea waters. There are the usual watersports available if you want something a little more energetic. The sea does shelve quiet steeply so would recommend keeping an eye on the children or non swimmers.
You should make time to explore the Old Town and wander through the narrow streets; you will find many nice shops as well as the touristy ones to browse around. A visit to the Museu Municipal is well worth doing and you should go and view the castle it is excellent for exploring with some great views. You will find plenty of places for refreshments if you need a break from sightseeing.
Other entertainments you might like to consider are the boat trips; you can take ones around the coast others to different resorts and places of interest. If you are looking for a family fun day out a popular attraction is a visit to Europe’s biggest waterpark near Lloret de Mar plenty of slides, rides and pools here. Your tour representative or a local travel agent can organize the trip for you.
Nightlife is fairly low key here, there are some discos and music bars which are livelier but if you are wanting to party you will need to go to Lloret de Mar. There are plenty of restaurants and bars, a number can be found along the promenade, you may want to try tapas or grilled sardines at one of the beach front eateries. Some restaurants are expensive but if you look around you should find one to suit your budget and taste. Many have a limited choice and have similar menus you can get pizzas, chicken and chips etc.
It is worth hiring a car for a few days and explore a little more of the Costa Brava, there are some beautiful views along the twisty mountain roads. Tossa de Mar is a clean pretty town with much to see and do.
