Val Thorens is a lively resort popular with skiers and snowboarders alike. In France most ski-resorts are purpose built with efficient lift systems and good facilities as well as been family orientated.
Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe and due to the altitude (2300m – 3230m) the snow quality is excellent and skiers can enjoy some amazing skiing
. There are Children’s group lessons available at the resort.
The varied landscape will suit any type of snowboard rider with some easy runs for beginners, there is a dedicated snowboard park as well, plenty of fun and challenges to be had here. For skiers there is something for everyone, beginners can progress and improve their skills on the wide gentle slopes.
Intermediates can test their skills on the runs above the resort or use the Three Valleys links and ski over to Méribel and Chourchevel or down to the Maurienne Valley. You will find many to test your skills!
Expert skiers will also find plenty of challenges with a quantity of black runs including the long sheer Cime de Caron. You can also enjoy high altitude glacier skiing and powder snow on the Glaciers of Peclet & Chaviére. Val Thorens is only 3km from the resort of Meribel and Mottaret and around 8km from Courchevel.
Val Thorens is part of the big Three Valleys area traffic is restricted after unloading your luggage your vehicle will have to be parked in one of the parking lots at the resort. The resort has a good choice of bars, restaurants and nightclubs for your evening entertainment; you can enjoy gourmet food, traditional fare, pizzas and pastas.
Non–skiers can enjoy some of the resorts attractions, you can spend time at the excellent sports centre, with indoor pool, sauna and Jacuzzi also squash and tennis if you want to be more energetic. You might want to try the brilliant 6km toboggan run situated in the Téte Ronde sector the toboggan run takes about 45minutes to go down an exciting experience! Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. You may want to indulge in a snow-mobile drive or perhaps enjoy a snow shoe walk.
If you are an independent traveller it is recommended to pre- book accommodation particularly in the main season. Many tour operators offer ski holidays packages with choices of accommodation from self-catering chalets & apartments for those who prefer their independence to family run hotels, stylish hotels etc. many with good facilities. With its ideal location this resort makes a good ‘snow sport’ holiday choice
with skiing practically on the doorstep.
